WATUDANDANG VILLAGE

Watudandang village located in Prambon district, Nganjuk city, east java province, indonesia. This area is a unique village. "watu" meaning stone and "dandang" meaning rice cooker  in ancient times. this village has a history that little bit concerned.

DISTRIBUTION OF RURAL AREAS

              Watudandang Village area consists of 2 Hamlet, namely: Hamlet watudandang  and Hamlet Banaran, each headed by a Chief of Hamlet. The position of Head of Hamlet to be very strategic as the number of overflow of the village to the task of this apparatus. In order to maximize the function of service to the community in the village watudandag, of the village is divided into 04 Rukun Warga (RW) and 04 Neighborhood (RT).
                                   

Seen in passing that the village in watudandang Prambon district same with other villages in Nganjuk, ie an agricultural village with a relatively broad stretches of agricultural land, there is no privilege that stands out, but if want to observe more closely, it turns out there is a difference that shows the role of village watudandang the past in the form of remnants of ancient relics. The remains of it is,

1.      Many brick size, even by residents often found as a series of former house foundation, especially              around a rice mill until towards the north. By the former residents of the bricks used to build a
house or wall.
2.      In the middle of the village rice fields, the remaining one-piece stone mortars which have not been stolen, the population is believed to still sacred.
3.      Agricultural land that is lower than the surrounding areas with more than 50 meters wide stretches from south to north concatenated with other villages in the north and the north it by the population believed to be the Duke Brantas in the past century.

In the 1930, the village was attacked by unseen forces that much harmed villagers such as harvest failures,death of livestock and many of its villagers who died. then the village government made ​​several attempts to resolve the issue by bringing a powerful shaman from outside the village.
Several attempts have been made by the shaman, and finally he found a large rock that resembles "dandang" (rice cooker in ancient times) in one of the villager's plantation. in every Friday night legi, it heard a strange sound that resembles the sound of a rice cooker was very loud from plantation. Finally, the shaman prayers and spells the stone and buried it very deep into the soil. villagers believe that the incident was a curse to the village. then the village was named "watudandang" which means stone shaped steamer.
