Watudandang village located in Prambon district, Nganjuk city, east java
province, indonesia. This area is a unique village. "watu"
meaning stone and "dandang" meaning rice cooker in ancient
times. this village has a history that little bit concerned.
In the 1930, the village was attacked by unseen
forces that much harmed villagers such as harvest failures,death of livestock
and many of its villagers who died. then the village government made
several attempts to resolve the issue by bringing a powerful shaman from
outside the village.
Several attempts have been made by the shaman, and
finally he found a large rock that resembles "dandang" (rice cooker
in ancient times) in one of the villager's plantation. in every Friday
night legi, it heard a strange sound that resembles the sound of a rice cooker
was very loud from plantation. Finally, the shaman prayers and spells the
stone and buried it very deep into the soil. villagers believe that the
incident was a curse to the village. then the village was named
"watudandang" which means stone shaped steamer.
